Lesson 3: Create your sacred writing space

What is a sacred writing space? ...

It is so important to have sacred writing space of your own. Somewhere or something that signifies that you are taking time to write the thing you feel called too. If it is possible to have a dedicated desk for your writing, then set that up for yourself with all the inspiration around you– quotes, books, journals, notes.

If you travel a bit or don’t have the dedicated writing space, then create a setting that allows that writing shrine to go with you where ever you write. For example) Having specific stones that are always with you when you write, a book of quotes that you begin the writing with, or maybe even a candle you light.

Steps to setting up your sacred writing space:

  1. Create a Writing Shrine

Yes, my friend, a Writing Shrine! This means a specific place that you return to for writing that is like your own little sanctuary. Set up this writing space as a place of returning to the page. Surround yourself with quotes, candles, books by your favorite authors. Let it be a space that feels like a refuge to you. A writing space you can’t wait to come back to at the end of a long day.

  2. Create a Writing Ritual

Setting up a writing ritual is a powerful exchange for the idea of routine. With ritual, you are able to create an experience around your book writing process that sets it a part. Maybe this looks like writing every morning first thing for two hours. Maybe it looks like saging the writing space before you begin, or even saying a blessing over the time. Whatever your ritual is, it is yours to uncover and be supported by.

Enjoy and have a wonderful time setting up your sacred writing space!

Your Sacred Writing Space Checklist:

  1. Find a dedicated writing space. If you don’t have one, then pick objects that will symbolize it for you, such as a journal, a candle, a book of quotes, etc.

  2. Consider what your writing ritual will be for your book writing process.
