Lesson 7: Write Your Why, Who, and What Statement
Who is your book for? ...
Book writing is no small feat. That is why we must get clear on why we are writing it, who we are writing it for, and what we long for this book to be.
To write your why, who, and what statement–set your timer for twenty minutes and write three separate paragraphs for each, the why, the who, and the what for your book idea.
Feel free to use these questions as prompts for each paragraph:
Why am I writing this now?
Who is my reader?
What will this book be?
Once you finish these three paragraphs, condense it down to a single sentence by combining them all together. For ex) my why was to write about my trauma recovery. My who was for survivors so that they feel less alone. My what is in the form of a memoir. Once I condense them into a sentence, it would look something like this:
“I am writing this book because it’s time to share the story about my trauma recovery, so that women and survivors alike can feel seen in their experience, as told in a memoir.”
Now, it’s your turn to write your why, who, what statement. I’m cheering you on!
Your Why, Who, What Checklist:
Write a response to why am I writing this?
Write a response to who is this book for?
Write a response to what type of book will this be?
Condense your why, who, what down to a single sentence.
Great job! Now it’s time choose your book idea for real. Ready? Let’s do this!
