Lesson 2: Uncover Your Voice
Our first pillar of Heal Your Story is on Voice. Why? Because the work of healing begins is reclaiming the lost voice and creating space to be told.
Our voice is our power, but often through painful events or past harm, our voice becomes suppressed, even silenced.
In this section we are going to dive into why we tend to lose our voice during painful events, how writing helps us get it back, and my signature technique called Voice Timeline that will help you identify the timeline of your voice journey and how to write stories to give them back their roar.
Where did my voice go when loss emerged?
When I was little, I struggled to share openly about how I was feeling and about the events that had shaped me as a trauma survivor. This continued into adulthood with pervasive silence and the overwhelming feelings of loneliness without being about to talk about my experience.
This is not uncommon. Many times we lose our voice because we do not have a safe place to share at the time. As a result we create a safe house of our own construction to protect our story and keep it locked away. While this is a brilliant coping mechanism and way our body protects us–we can become so insulated and keep out voice locked away that we become accustomed to the voicelessness.
It is time to reclaim your voice.
Take a moment to write about what it would mean for you to reclaim your voice, to roar, to share your truth? How would that freedom of your voice liberate you?
Your lesson one checklist:
Read the lesson above and ponder the power of how your voice has been impacted by loss and past trauma.
Write about what it would mean for you to reclaim your voice and finally roar your truth.
